Writer

Matthew has written on travel and single dads issues for most British national newspapers. He writes under his own name and (to avoid irritating his sons) under pseudonyms too.

He has written three narrative travel books (available below) and co-written a guidebook to Spain.

‘This book was first
published in 1993 but
it’s such a lot of fun!
There are some great
stories, told with
mischievous playfulness
and humour and the pithy
bitesize chapters make for
an easy read.’

“A child’s eye view
of that great continent.”

—Daily Express on
Across America with the Boys

“A lovely book which gives
an insight into Canadian
travel but with a twist as it
tells the story of a Dad
(travelling with his two
young sons) who needs
help… so he hires three
grannies to help at
different stages.
A great read.”

MATTHEW’S TRAVELS – 10 YEARS OF
TRIPS FOR THE TRAVEL SHOW

For ten years Matthew undertook a relentless succession of surprise summer TV travel challenges. These included travelling to Spain with his leg in plaster when it wasn’t broken – he had to test travelling facilities for disabled people; staying at a nudist camp where single men and photography were banned (he was alone with three cameras round his neck); and sleeping in a swag under the stars in Australia’s Northern Territory. .

“Great fun… A must,” The Daily Telegraph.

ACROSS AMERICA WITH THE BOYS

When Matthew realised that his four-year-old son would soon start school and not have so much free time again for years, he decided to take him and his three-year-old brother on the trip of a lifetime. He persuaded his bank manager to lend him some money and set off with the boys.

Their 6,500 miles, three-month, motorhome journey was a dream fulfilled. But naturally they had the odd problem – such as a brush with the law in Texas. And the kids continually tested Matthew’s patience. But they also got him invited to a Las Vegas wedding and on to Arkansas TV.

Across America with the boys is the story of a dad stepping off the stressed parent’s merry-go-round. The scrapes he and the boys get into will make you laugh out loud.

‘A child’s eye view of that great continent,’ Daily Express.

‘I found myself laughing out loud at the antics of the boys. This book was hard to put down.’
‘Funny, interesting, and engaging! I highly reccommend it.’ Amazon readers
